Better Ball Stableford is one of the many game formats available in our app, Golf GameBook.
The Better Ball format, also known as Four Ball, is a popular choice in both friendly matches and competitive tournaments, involving teams of two players each. Throughout the game, each player plays their own ball from tee to green on every hole, independently managing their own game. The team's score for each hole is determined by the lower of the two scores recorded by the team members. In regular Better Ball, for example, if Player A scores a 4 and Player B scores a 5, the team’s score is 4.
Scoring with the Stableford System
In Better Ball Stableford, scoring utilizes the Stableford system, which awards points based on the number of strokes taken relative to par (net score). Points are earned as follows: 0 for double bogey or worse, 1 for bogey, 2 for par, 3 for birdie, 4 for eagle, and 5 for albatross. The higher point total of the two players on each hole becomes the team's score, promoting a dynamic and strategic gameplay where both players’ performances are crucial.
In addition to the regular Stableford scoring system, Golf GameBook offers three (3) modified versions of Stableford:
- Modified: Eagle 5p, Birdie 2p, Par 0p, Bogey -1p, DB+ -3p
- Modified 2: Eagle 6p, Birdie 4p, Par 2p, Bogey 1p, DB+ 0p
- Modified 3 Eagle 5p, Birdie 3p, Par 2p, Bogey 1p, DB+ 0p
In the context of Better Ball, the points earned by each player on a hole are compared, and the higher point total between the two players is the team's score for that hole. For example, if Player A earns 2 points (par) and Player B earns 3 points (birdie), the team's score for that hole would be 3 points.
